CUSCO- ALFAMAYUC- SANTA MARIA (BIKING / RAFTING)

At 6:00am we will start the tour with a transfer from your hotel to Alfamayuc. Our destination for the day will be the small village of Santa Maria at 1,430 meters. On our way, we’ll see rolling hills and snowcapped peaks of the Mountains. We will have some opportunities to take some pictures along the way as well. We will arrive in Alfamayuc and go on riding for a number of hours by bicycle to Santa Maria. The 3 - 4 hour downhill ride is exhilarating and relaxing at the same time.

When we arrive, we will have some free time to rest

In the afternoon we will have the option to do white water rafting until the afternoon in Santa Maria (rafting level III)

Explore the village on your free time before having dinner. Overnight will be at a local hostel.

INCA JUNGLE TRAIL DAY 2
SANTA MARÍA - SANTA TERESA (TREKKING)

We begin the day with a healthy breakfast, and then we will walk through the tropical forest for a short period along the road before taking a trail through coffee and coca plantations and passing through farms which grow tropical fruits. After climbing for a while we will connect with a "tropical Inca trail," an original Inca Path. There are great views along this section as we descend down some impressive Inca stairs while admiring the canyon of the Vilcanota River. Please note, this is VERY challenging for those with vertigo or a fear of heights! There will be many photo opportunities on the way. We will also have a chance to visit the local Coca Plantation. Because in Santa Teresa there is an option to do zip line, Our group will be transported to the place where will be organized this activity. This part will take around 2 hours. After zip line this group will be taken by bus to our Village

At last, when we arrive in Santa Teresa, we will be able to enjoy the hot springs which is optional (not included in price). We will relax there until it is time for dinner. We will overnight in a nice local hostel in Santa Teresa.

SANTA TERESA - LUCMABAMBA - ARCHAEOLOGICALSITE PATALLACTA. HYDROELECTRICA - MACHUPICCHU PUEBLO

After breakfast, we will head to Lucmabamba, where we’ll start climbing to reach the Patallacta archaeological ruins and follow a large tract of real Inca trail. From this point you can see the Inca city of Machu Picchu. We then descend for 1 hour, to a beautiful waterfall, reaching Hidroelectrica. After having lunch, we will continue heading to Machu Picchu Pueblo and visit the Mandor Waterfall We will spend the night in a comfortable hotel in Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo). In the evening you can take the opportunity to explore the Hot Springs Village.

FULL DAY MACHUPICCHU - CUSCO

We will have breakfast and then take the bus (8am) up to Machu Picchu. A walking tour of approximately 2 hours is given by your guide and after this you can explore the mysterious city by yourselves. If you have energy you can also climb Huayna Picchu (2720m/8890ft)! (It takes about 45 minutes to reach the top.) Optional evening visit to the Hot Springs: entrance fees US$4.We’ll take the Expedition train back to Ollantaytambo and a bus to Cusco. We'll be in Cusco approximately at noon.

Inca Trail Availability, Inca Trail permits

Inca Trail Availability,  Inca Trail to Machu Picchu permits 


The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu will be closed the month of February by disposition of the Ministry of Culture, because maintenance, upkeep and cleaning will be performed. The entrance to the Inca Trail will be re-enabled from March 1.

In this section you can check the availability of the trail provided by the Ministry of Culture. Here some information should take into account:

  • The month of February is rainy season so the Ministry closes the Inca Trail.
  • This information is directly provided by the Ministry of Culture.
  • The number of spaces is very variable. Agencies usually book up to 30 spaces, do not be surprised if in a moment the available spaces are sold out.
  • The spaces shown are for either route be it Short Inca Trail 2 days or Classic Inca Trail 4 days.
  • Availability is exclusively administered by the Ministry of Culture. Only they can manage and authorize the access to the Inca Trail.
  • The Inca Trail is enabled only for 500 spaces per day, within which includes staff spaces.

The Route of Inca Trail

The Route of Inca Trail

What people usually refer to as the Classic Inca Trail is in the area of Cusco, Peru and has the destination of Machu Picchu. There are a few variations of the Inca Trail that you can follow to get to Machu Picchu depending on the route you follow and the time you have. The following is some information about the popular Inca Trail 4 days route with the last day being a visit to Machu Picchu.

Day 1: Cusco - Km 82 – Wayllabamba


From Cusco, you will head out with your group and guide to Km 82 to start your Inca Trail trek. It should take about 2-2 ½ hours to reach Km 82 which also is our first check point for the Inca Trail. From the first checkpoint, we will go on a relatively easy hike (mainly flat) to our lunch site (Miskay). After lunch we'll walk another 2 hours to Wayllabamba (a gradual uphill hike) where our campsite is located. We'll reach our campsite at around 5:00pm.

Approximate walking Time: 5-6 hours

Day 2: Wayllabamba - Dead Woman Pass - Paccaymayu


From Wayllabamba we will hike uphill until we reach the highest point of our Classic Inca Trail trek, Dead Woman Pass at 4600 meters. This part of the Inca Trail will take about 5 hours (7KM). From there we will go downhill for an additional 2 hours until we reach our camp at Paccaymayu at 3600 meters.

Approximate walking Time: 6-7 hours

Day 3: Paccaymayu - Runkuraqhay Pass – Phuyupatamarka - Wiñayhuayna(16KM)


From Paccaymayu we'll hike one hour uphill to Runkuraqhay. From here we'll hike an additional 1 hour to the second highest point on the Classic Inca Trail, Runkuraqhay Pass at 4000 meters. In another 45 minutes hike, we'll be able to visit the Inca ruins of Sayacmarka. After visiting these ruins, we'll hike about 25 minutes to get to our lunch site at Chakiccocha. After a hike of about 1 hour, we'll reach the third Inca ruin Phuyupatamarka which will also be our last pass at 3600 meters. We'll hike another 2 hours to reach Wiñayhuayna at around 5:00pm.

Optional: If you still have the energy you can also go to the ruins of Wiñayhuayna before dinner which is about 5 minute from camp.

Day 4: Wiñayhuayna - Sun Gate - Machu Picchu - Cusco(6KM)


At 4:30am we'll start our hike to the first control point of the day for the Inca Trail. We'll wait for a little while before they let everyone pass and then hike about 1-1 ½ hours to the Sun Gate where you'll have your first view of Inca City of Machu Picchu. From here we'll walk an additional 30 minutes to the 2nd control point outside of Machu Picchu. We'll enter Machu Picchu, have a tour, and after walking around Machu Picchu for a while, you will take a bus down to Aguas Calientes and catch your train to Ollantaytambo where we'll pick you up and bring everyone to Cusco for the end of the trip.
